Let’s Learn Together: Broadcast Animation in Unreal Engine at the Wacom Experience Center

The Wacom Experience Center Portland, aka WacomXPDX, is the living room for the creative, tech and start-up communities in Portland, Ore. We act as an innovative facilitation space for creative minds of all kinds, industries and skill sets. It’s where we host events, panel discussions, and workshops focused on a variety of topics and themes surrounding all things creativity, technology, and beyond. We are open to the public and to anyone looking to take their creativity to the next level.

Creatives using Wacom Cintiq hardware at a WacomXPDX event

We’re excited to announce an upcoming event at the Experience Center: Let’s Learn Together: Broadcast Animation in Unreal Engine, taking place on Tuesday, March 19 from 5:30 – 8:30pm PDT.

About the event

Are you a broadcast animator? Used to working in Maya or Blender? It can be a bit daunting to dive into a whole new piece of software, but Unreal Engine is rapidly becoming a go-to solution for broadcast animation, being used by Netflix and Disney for recent productions.

Hosted by Lucas Haley, a researcher, academic, and developer in video games, animation, and emerging technology, this free, in-person workshop is intended for people with animation experience but totally new to Unreal to enhance their skills and network with fellow enthusiasts.

Who should attend?

This event is not just for video game developers; Unreal Engine can be used for all kinds of animation workflows. It’s intended for animators who have some experience, but haven’t used Unreal before.

How can I attend?

Tickets are very limited, as this is a hands-on workshop using Wacom Cintiq hardware at the Wacom Experience Center. However, some “standing room” tickets will be available if the primary slots fill up, for those who would like to simply watch and listen but not participate.

Get your free tickets and more details at Eventbrite. See you there!

Excited about Unreal and want to learn more?

This isn’t the only upcoming Unreal Engine event at WacomXPDX this month!

Born out of a desire to find Unreal Engine users in the Portland area and bring them together under one roof, the Unreal PDX meetup meets monthly at the Wacom Experience Center. Anyone with an interest in using Unreal Engine is welcome, regardless of skill level or experience. Come and join us for casual gatherings, workshops, game jams and more to come!

The next meetup is on March 28, 2024. Click here for more info or to RSVP. This month’s meetup is their Spring 2024 Demo Night, where you can show off your Unreal Engine project and get feedback from your peers in a casual setting. Everything from prototypes and experiments to games and simulations are welcome. If you are planning to demo a project, please bring your own hardware and let the organizers know about your project when you RSVP.

You can still come, however, even if you don’t have a project to show, or even if you’ve never used Unreal Engine before! This is a great opportunity to see what local developers are creating and get a taste of what Unreal can do. Click here for more info or to RSVP.
