Answers to some common questions about the new Wacom Intuos Pro

March 12, 2025

In February 2025, Wacom released the new Intuos Pro, our flagship line of professional creative pen tablets. Intuos Pro has been completely redesigned to provide an all-new level of precision and control over your work – and an intuitive creative experience that lets your ideas flow with effortlessness and efficiency.

Since its release, Wacom has received a number of questions about Intuos Pro’s redesign and features. We’ve collected a few, along with answers, here.

What features in the new Intuos Pro set it apart from previous generations?

The new Wacom Intuos Pro features an updated ergonomic layout with intuitive mechanical dials and ExpressKeys along the top, designed for easy access and keyboard usage by both left- and right-handed users. These controls come preset with popular functions for convenience, but can also be easily customized with shortcuts for each creative application.

It features a newly designed Integrated Circuit (IC) chip, which delivers improved performance and considerable size reduction. This results in a thin and compact product size, while achieving high pen accuracy and power savings. It is built with durable magnesium for added durability, and also comes with a physical three-position switch that lets users seamlessly toggle between a USB connection and up to two computers paired wirelessly with Bluetooth®.

The tablet comes with Pro Pen 3, featuring Wacom’s most advanced pen technology for the most sensitive and accurate pen performance ever – but also features Dual Pen Technology, making it compatible with older Wacom Pro Pens as well as and EMR-compatible styluses from Wacom partners like LAMY and STAEDTLER.

Why were the shortcut buttons moved to the top and split on either side?

The newly redesigned ergonomic layout of the ExpressKeys and mechanical dials, along the top of the tablet, are optimized for easy keyboard use with either right or left-handed operation and to not interfere with pen movement. This layout also reduces accidentally ExpressKey button presses and reduces arm strain. Numerous set-up capabilities in the Wacom Center software allow you to easily and efficiently control software features and complex workflows so that you can fully focus on your creative flow.

What other improvements have been made to wrist comfort and ergonomics? Does the edge-to-edge drawing area leave enough space for resting your palm?

In addition to the redesigned ergonomic layout, the new Wacom Intuos Pro is the thinnest tablet Wacom has ever produced, with a leading edge only 4mm tall. This means one’s work surface can more easily provide proper wrist support. The thinner bezel and reduced footprint also makes it more space-efficient on one’s desk, providing more workspace flexibility.

Is this tablet compatible with the Wacom ExpressKey Remote?

Yes. While Wacom Intuos Pro comes with integrated ExpressKeys and one or two mechanical dials, all Wacom products are compatible with the Wacom ExpressKey Remote.

Note: a Wacom driver is necessary to connect the ExpressKey Remote to your computer.

Can the active area be remapped?

Yes. In the Mapping section of Wacom Center, choose the Advanced tab and turn on “Show Advanced Options” to allow full mapping customization.

Does the new Intuos Pro have multi-touch?

No. In conversations with our professional users, it became clear that multi-touch was not a popular feature – but its inclusion adds to the cost of producing the product. Removing this feature allowed us to create our highest performance Intuos Pro ever at a reasonable cost.

Wacom Pro Pen 3

What features in Wacom Pro Pen 3 set it apart from previous generations?

Wacom Pro Pen 3 features our most sensitive, accurate, and natural pen performance ever, with improved tilt recognition, pressure sensitivity, and precision. And one of the most exciting new features is its customizability: with Pro Pen 3 you can adjust grip width, weight distribution, and button configuration to match your preferences.

Does the new Intuos Pro support barrel rotation for the pen?

Barrel rotation is supported by Wacom Intuos Pro, but the only Wacom pen with that feature is the Wacom Art Pen; Wacom Pro Pen 3 does not support barrel rotation. Unfortunately, the Art Pen is not currently available for sale from Wacom – but if you currently own one, you can use it with Intuos Pro.

Is Wacom Pro Pen 3 compatible with previous Intuos Pro models?

Because of its advanced features and specifications, Wacom Pro Pen 3 is only compatible with our Professional line of pen displays and tablets: Wacom Intuos Pro (2025), Wacom Cintiq Pro (2023), and Wacom Movink.

How does the new Intuos Pro address pen nib durability? Has the tablet’s surface been updated? Can texture sheets be used? Are there options for different nib types?

Wacom Intuos Pro comes with a completely new surface, with special attention paid to reducing nib wear. Three different nibs are available with Wacom Pro Pen 3: the Standard Nib for that classic Wacom pen-on-paper feel, the Felt Nib for a softer feel, and the Rubber Nib for a more controlled, precise pen stroke with a bit more “grip” than the Felt or Standard nib.

And as with the previous Intuos Pro models, texture sheet replacements are available for all three sizes.
